Metis, the blockchain protocol aiming to serve as Layer 2 for the Ethereum network, has launched its second testnet enabling users to preview the platform. Additionally, the project has unveiled a new Ecosystem Development Program with a more robust and accessible DLT.
Metis Launches Second Network Testnet
Developed as an Optimistic Rollup, Metis advertises itself as an “easy-to-use, highly scalable, low-cost, and fully functional Layer 2 framework to fully support the application and business migration from Web 2.0 to Web 3.0.”
In a press release shared with CryptoPotato, the project outlined its latest developments, starting with the release of the second network testnet. It will “set the stage” for community members to preview the platform and assist with the current beta testing.
The second version follows the Alpha Testnet launched earlier this year. It will add several features, including multi-MVM and muti-sequencer support and deployment, and promises more developments coming with the mainnet release scheduled for September 2021.
The Beta Testnet will enable developers to deploy and test smart contracts on the network, which are compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Consequently, these functions will work with “gas fees of one or two cents (or less), transaction speeds of one second or less, and a more decentralized and secure infrastructure, tapping into the strengths of the Ethereum blockchain.”

Metis Ecosystem Development Program
In addition to the Beta Testnet launch, the project also presented its new Ecosystem Development Program. It helps other protocols launched on its blockchain to benefit from the “low cost, high efficiency, high scalability, high functionality, and ease of use of blockchain.”
At the same time, the program will enhance the sustainability of their businesses. Metis will also strive to provide support for DeFi protocols and dApps.
